2020 Congress

Alan Gabster's International Medical Conference 2020

Over the last 9 years CDNA has been organising an medical conference in the honor of Alan Gabster. He was a cardiologist who always believed and work in favour of people with less resources.

The conference has followed his work and vision of providing continuous training to health personnel and doctors from remote areas, with very limited resources and opportunities. The conference offers access to continuous training about tropical medicine and infectious diseases.

The topics and speaker has  imporved over the years. As a direct consequence of that, the number of participants have grown over the years and we plan to keep that trend streaching to the maximum the locations and resourcers.

We are proud for the support that we have received from the Ministry of Health (MINSA) that has materialised in the facilitation of spaces to perform the talks and presentations also borrowing us equipment and of course encouraging the professionals who work for them to participate as speakers.

Thanks also to the donors as with their support we are able to provide schoolarships for professionals to participate in the conference, from different parts of the country. Some of them come from remote communities and can take them up to three days to reach the city of Santiago, where the conference is hosted.

This year we were hoping to introduce some practical sessions, but due to covid-19 and the travelling restrictions, we has shifted the ideas and we are moving the conference to digital platform. So the training can still be deliver although we will miss the networking part of it and our famous “Night quiz of infectious deseass”.

New for this year is that we increase sustantially the presence of tropical diseases  and their diagnose and we will have speakers from top universities from Colombia, the USA and Venezuala. As well as professionals from Panama that are leading investigations in viruses and bacterias that exist in the areas of the  country such as Darién or the Comarca Ngöbe-Buglé.
